Building FAQs

Can you knock through a load-bearing wall?

Yes. Load-bearing knock-throughs are done with proper temporary support, a correctly sized steel or lintel, and building control involvement. If you don't have structural calculations yet, we can arrange an engineer as part of the job.

Do I need building regulations approval?

Structural openings need building control sign-off. Your builder will walk you through what's needed and the notification is handled as part of the job, so you get the completion certificate for future sale of your home.

How long does a knock-through take?

A straightforward single-skin knock-through typically takes 3–5 days including making good. Wider openings and double-skin walls take longer — you'll see the expected duration alongside your upfront price.

Is the building work guaranteed?

Yes. All Fixie building work is covered by our workmanship guarantee. If mortar fails or plaster cracks within the guarantee period due to workmanship, we'll return and put it right at no charge.
